"And if He had heard them, they would have turned away, while they were refusing" (8:23). This is like His saying: "But even if they were returned, they would return to that which they were forbidden" (6:28).
﴿وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوْا وَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ﴾ هِيَ كَقَوْلِهِ: ﴿وَلَوْ رُدُّوا لَعَادُوا لما نهوا عَنهُ﴾.
