"O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess..." (24:58). They are the male [and female] slaves who serve a man in his house. "And those who have not reached puberty among you," meaning: the children who are capable of describing things if they see something, "at three times: before the dawn prayer, and when you put aside your clothing during the noon [rest]," which is midday during the time of the siesta, "and from after the night prayer. [These are] three times of privacy for you." It is not appropriate for these adults and those who are capable of describing things to enter except with permission, unless the man has no need for his wife. It is not appropriate for him, if he has need for his wife, to have intercourse with her while one of these people is in the house with him. Therefore, they do not enter during these three times except with permission. "There is no blame upon you or upon them beyond these [periods]," after these three times, to enter without permission. "[They are] among you, having mutual access to one another," meaning: you go around to one another; that is, they enter without permission.

Muhammad said: "Tawwafun" (those having mutual access) is in the nominative case, meaning: they are those having mutual access to you, having mutual access to one another; that is, you go around to one another.
