His saying: "One of them wishes."
947 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding: "One of them wishes," meaning the Magians.
His saying: "If he could be granted life a thousand years."
948 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj, Ahmad ibn Sinan, and Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, they said: Ibn Numayr 'Abd Allah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "One of them wishes if he could be granted life a thousand years," he said: It is like the saying of the Persian: "Zah hazar sal," meaning ten thousand years.
949 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Isma'il ibn 'Atiyyah narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "One of them wishes if he could be granted life a thousand years," he said: Sin was made beloved to them for the length of life. And it was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr similarly to what was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas.
His saying: "But it would not remove him from the punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do."
950 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, or 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "But it would not remove him from the punishment," meaning it would not save him. And that is because the polytheist does not hope for a resurrection after death, so he loves the length of life, and the Jew has already known his disgrace in the Hereafter for having wasted the knowledge he possessed.
951 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "But it would not remove him from the punishment that he should be granted life," he says: And if he were granted life, that would not suffice him against the punishment, nor would it save him from it.
His saying: "And Allah is Seeing of what they do."
952 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Walid from the offspring of Ma'qil ibn Muqarrin narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Shihab narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: The Jews came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Abu al-Qasim.
