"We ask you about things; if you inform us of them, we will know that you are a Prophet and we will follow you." He said: So he took from them the same pledge that Israel took from his sons: That Allah is Witness over what we say. They said: "Inform us who is your companion that comes to you from the angels, for there is no prophet except that an angel comes to him with the news. This is the one we would follow if you informed us." He said: "Jibril (Gabriel)." They said: "That is the one who descends with war and fighting. That is our enemy. If you had said: Mika'il (Michael), who descends with vegetation, rain, and mercy..."
So Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed: "Whoever is an enemy to Jibril, for he has brought it down upon your heart..." until the end of the verse.
His saying: "For he has brought it down."
953 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala'—meaning Abu Kurayb—narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id—meaning al-Zayyat—narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "So Allah revealed," refuting them: "Say, O Muhammad: 'Whoever is an enemy to Jibril,'" he says: "For Jibril has brought it down," he says: He brought down the Quran from Me.
954 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah regarding His saying: "For he has brought it down upon your heart," he says: Jibril brought down the Book upon your heart by the permission of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. It was narrated from al-Hasan and al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly to the saying of Abu al-'Aliyah.
His saying: "Upon your heart."
