974 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Is it not [true] that every time they took a covenant, a party of them threw it away? But, [in fact], most of them do not believe," he said: "Yes, there is no covenant on earth they make but that they break it and cast it aside; they make a covenant today and break it tomorrow."
His saying: "a party of them threw it away"
975 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "a party of them threw it away," he says: "a party of them broke it."
His saying: "But, [in fact], most of them do not believe"
976 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, saying: We read to 'Amir ibn al-Furat, from Asbat, from al-Suddi: "do not believe," he says: "they do not believe in what Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) brought."
His saying: "And when there came to them a messenger from Allah confirming what was with them"
977 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "And when there came to them a messenger from Allah confirming what was with them," he said: "When Muhammad came to them, they confronted him with the Torah and disputed with him using it. The Torah and the Qur'an agreed, so they cast the Torah aside and took up the book of Asif and the magic of Harut and Marut, which did not align with the Qur'an. That is the saying of Allah: 'as if they did not know.'"
His saying: "a party of those who were given the Scripture threw the Book of Allah behind their backs"
978 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, "a party of those who were given the Scripture threw the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know," he mentioned the Jews.
979 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "a party of those who were given the Scripture threw the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know," he said: "When Muhammad came to them, they confronted him with the Torah and disputed with him using it.
