The third interpretation:
1063 - 'Ubayd Allah ibn Isma'il al-Baghdadi narrated to us, Khalaf narrated to us, al-Khaffaf narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Muslim, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: 'Umar addressed us and said: "Allah says: 'Whatever We abrogate of a verse or cause to be forgotten'—meaning We defer it."
It was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah: "We defer it with Us."
And from 'Ata': "We defer it."
The fourth interpretation:
1064 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad al-'Asqalani narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Warqa', from Ibn Abi Najih, from 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Whatever We abrogate of a verse or cause to be forgotten," he says: "Or We leave it, We lift it from among you, then We bring one similar to it, or better than it and similar to it." It was narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas and al-Suddi something similar to this.
The fifth interpretation:
1065 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih informed me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Whatever We abrogate of a verse or cause to be forgotten," he says: "Whatever We replace of a verse or leave it, we do not replace it."
1066 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "'Or cause it to be forgotten,' so we leave it, we do not abrogate it."
His saying: "We bring [one] better than it or similar to it"
1067 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih informed me, from 'Ali, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "We bring [one] better than it or similar to it," he says: "Better for you in terms of benefit and gentler for you."
1068 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far al-Razi, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "'Whatever We abrogate of a verse'—meaning it is no longer acted upon. 'Or cause it to be forgotten'—meaning We keep it with Us, and we bring it or something else."
1069 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "'We bring [one] better than it or similar to it'"—he says: "We bring [one] better than that which we abrogated, or similar to that which we left."
