His saying: "Likewise, those before them said something similar to their statement."
1144 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, who said: Allah says: "Likewise, those before them said something similar to their statement," meaning the Jews and the Christians or others. It was narrated from al-Suddi, Qatadah, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly. It was also narrated from Mujahid that he said: "The Jews."
His saying: "Their hearts are similar. We have clarified the signs for a people who are certain."
1145 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Their hearts are similar," meaning the hearts of the Jews and the Christians. He said: Their similarity is that the Jews said: "The Christians have no basis [in truth]," and the Christians said: "The Jews have no basis [in truth]." Allah says: "Likewise, those before them said something similar to their statement... We have clarified the signs for a people who are certain."
1146 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "...signs for a people who are certain," he said: An admonition for whoever takes heed.
His saying: "Indeed, We have sent you with the truth, as a bringer of good tidings and a warner."
1147 - My father narrated to us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, Ibn al-Sammak narrated to us, from Abu Bakr, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "The truth," [it means] the entirety of the truth.
1148 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah al-Fazari narrated to us, from Shayban al-Nahwi, Qatadah informed me, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), who said: It was revealed to me: "Indeed, We have sent you (with the truth) as a bringer of good tidings," he said: A bringer of good tidings of Paradise.
1149 - And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "A warner," he said: A warner against the Fire.
1150 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn Numayr narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "O Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib, O Banu Fihr..."
