His saying: "And if you were to bring to those who were given the Scripture every sign."

And by way of him, from al-Suddi: "And if you were to bring to those who were given the Scripture every sign, they would not follow your Qiblah, nor are you a follower of their Qiblah, nor are some of them followers of the Qiblah of others." He says: The Jews are not followers of the Qiblah of the Christians, nor are the Christians followers of the Qiblah of the Jews.

His saying: "And if you were to follow their desires."

1366 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, regarding His saying: "After what has come to you of knowledge," concerning the reports I have narrated to you.

His saying: "Those to whom We gave the Scripture know it as they know their own sons."

There is a difference of opinion regarding its interpretation. One of them is:

[The First Interpretation]

1367 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi narrated to us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to us, my uncle narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Those to whom We gave the Scripture know it as they know their own sons," meaning thereby the Ka'bah, the Sacred House.

1368 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "Know it as they know their own sons," they know the Ka'bah, that it is the Qiblah of the Prophets, just as they know their own sons. It was also narrated from Qatadah, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, and al-Dahhak, similar to that.

And the Second Interpretation:

1369 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Nufayl al-Harrani narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Khusayf ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, regarding His saying: "Those to whom We gave the Scripture know it as they know their own sons," he said: They are the Jews and the Christians. They know the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his description in their Scripture, just as they know their own sons.
