1417 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, regarding: "And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger," he said: Allah has already tested them with all of that, and He will test them with what is more severe than that. Something similar has been narrated from al-Rabi'.
His saying: "And a deficiency of wealth, lives, and fruits."
Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us by way of reading, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur informed me, Shayban informed me, from Abu Ishaq, from Raja' ibn Haywah, regarding: "And a deficiency of fruits," he said: Until the palm tree does not bear except a single fruit.

1419 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih (the scribe of al-Layth) narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: He commanded them to be patient and gave them good tidings, so He said: "But give good tidings to the patient." Then He informed them that He had done the same with His prophets and chosen ones, so that they might find comfort, as He said: "...they were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken."
1420 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "But give good tidings to the patient" who are patient regarding the command of Allah during calamities, meaning: Give them good tidings of Paradise.
His saying: "Who, when disaster strikes them, say, 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.'"
