1428 - 'Isam ibn al-Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "Those are upon them are prayers from their Lord and mercy." He says: The prayers and mercy are for those who were patient and said "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un."

His saying: "And mercy"

1429 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And mercy," meaning: mercy for them and security from the punishment.

His saying: "And it is those who are the guided"

From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And it is those who are the guided," meaning: those guided by saying "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un" at the time of disaster.

His saying: "Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah"

[The first version]

1430 - Abu 'Abd Allah, nephew of Ibn Wahb, narrated to us, my uncle—meaning 'Abd Allah ibn Wahb—narrated to us, Yunus informed me, from al-Zuhri, from 'Urwah, that 'Aisha informed him that the Ansar, before they embraced Islam, they and Ghassan, used to perform the Hlal (ritual invocation) for Manat, so they felt it was wrong to perform Tawaf between al-Safa and al-Marwah. That was a sign among their ancestors; whoever consecrated himself for Manat would not perform Tawaf between al-Safa and al-Marwah. They asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about that when they embraced Islam, so Allah the Mighty and Majestic revealed concerning that: "Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah."

1431 - Abu 'Ubayd Allah, nephew of Ibn Wahb, narrated to us, my uncle narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from 'Urwah, who said: I said to 'Aisha: Do you see the saying of Allah: "Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah" to the end of the verse, by Allah, there is no blame on anyone for not performing Tawaf between them. She said: It is not as you have said, O son of my sister. If it were as you interpreted it, it would have been: "There is no blame on him for not performing Tawaf." Rather, it was revealed because this clan of the Ansar, before they embraced Islam, used to perform the Hlal for Manat, the tyrant whom they worshipped near al-Mushallal. Whoever performed the Hlal for her felt it was wrong to perform Tawaf between al-Safa and al-Marwah. When they embraced Islam, they asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about that, so Allah the Mighty and Majestic revealed: "Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah" to the end of the verse. She said:
