His saying, the Exalted: "Then indeed, you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord will dispute."
18385 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Amr, from Ibn Hatib—meaning Yahya ibn Abd al-Rahman—from Ibn al-Zubayr, from al-Zubayr, he said: When it was revealed: "Then indeed, you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord will dispute," al-Zubayr said: O Messenger of Allah, will the dispute be repeated upon us? He said: "Yes." He said: The matter is then severe.
His saying, the Exalted: "Allah presents an example: a man in whom are partners quarreling."
18386 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: "Allah presents an example: a man in whom are partners quarreling." He said: A man who worships various gods; this is an example Allah the Exalted presented for the idolaters. "And a man belonging to one man"—[Allah] presented this as an example for himself [the monotheist].
18387 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "And a man belonging to one man," he said: There is no one else who has any claim upon him.
18388 - From Mubashir ibn Ubayd al-Qurashi, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: The recitation of Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was: "And a man belonging to a man," meaning: exclusively to one man, upright, meaning: surrendered to one man.
His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die."
18389 - From Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: We remained for a period of our time thinking that this verse was revealed concerning us and the People of the Two Scriptures before us: "Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die. Then indeed, you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord will dispute." We said: How shall we dispute while our Prophet is one and our Book is one? Until I saw some of us striking the faces of others with the sword, and I realized that it was revealed concerning us.
