18730 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Lord of the two easts," he said: The rising point of the star and the rising point of the twilight. And "Lord of the two wests," he said: The setting point of the sun and the setting point of the twilight. (1)
His saying, the Almighty: "He has merged the two seas," until His saying: "do not transgress."
18731 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "He has merged the two seas," he said: He sent forth the two seas. "Between them is a barrier," he said: A partition. "Do not transgress," he said: They do not mix. (2)
18732 - From Ibn 'Abbas: "Between them is a barrier, do not transgress," he said: Between them is such a distance that neither one of them encroaches upon the other. (3)
His saying, the Almighty: "From both of them emerge pearl."
18733 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "From both of them emerge pearl," he said: When the sky rains, the oyster shells in the sea open their mouths, and whatever of the raindrops of the sky falls into them, that is the pearl. (4)
18734 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: When the sky rains, the oyster shells in the sea open their mouths, and whatever falls into them—meaning from the rain—is the pearl. (5)
His saying, the Almighty: "And to Him belong the ships constructed [as] high mountains in the sea."
18735 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, al-'Arar ibn Suwayd narrated to us, from 'Umayrah ibn Sa'd, he said: I was with 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, on the bank of the Euphrates, when a ship with a patched sail approached. 'Ali spread his hands and said: Allah the Almighty says: "And to Him belong the ships constructed [as] high mountains in the sea." By the One who constructed them to sail through His seas, I did not kill 'Uthman, nor did I assist in his killing. (6)
His saying, the Almighty: "Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him," and His saying: "Every day He is bringing about a matter."
