He said: Yusha' ibn Nun was the foremost to Moses; the believer from the family of Yasin was the foremost to Jesus; and 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was the foremost to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). (1)

18774 - From al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said regarding "And when the souls are paired": He said: The counterparts. Every man will be with a people who used to do as he did. That is because Allah the Almighty says: "And you become three kinds." So the companions of the right—what are the companions of the right? And the companions of the left—what are the companions of the left? And the foremost—the foremost. He said: They are the counterparts. (2)

His saying, the Almighty: "A company."

18775 - From Abu Hurayrah, he said: When it was revealed: "A company of the former [peoples] and a few of the latter," that weighed heavily upon the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then it was revealed: "A company of the former [peoples] and a company of the latter." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I indeed hope that you will be a quarter of the people of Paradise, nay, you are half of the people of Paradise or a portion of the people of Paradise, and you will share the second portion with them." His saying, the Almighty: "Woven."

18776 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "On thrones woven [with gold]," he said: Interwoven with gold. (4)

His saying, the Almighty: "Ill speech."

18777 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "They will not hear therein ill speech," he said: Falsehood. "Nor commission of sin," he said: Lying. (5)

His saying, the Almighty: "[Banana] trees layered [with fruit]."

18778 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from Idris, from Ja'far ibn Iyas, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id regarding "[Banana] trees layered [with fruit]" (Talhin Mandud), he said: The banana. He said: And it was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Abu Hurayrah, al-Hasan, 'Ikrimah, Qasamah ibn Zuhayr, Qatadah, and Abu Harzah similar to that. (6)
