His saying, the Almighty: "Like the example of Satan when he said to man, 'Disbelieve.'"
18860 - By way of al-'Awfi, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Like the example of Satan..." (the verse), he said: There was a monk from the Children of Israel who worshipped Allah and excelled in his worship. People would come to him from every land to ask him about jurisprudence, as he was a scholar. Three brothers had a beautiful sister, one of the most beautiful of people, and they wanted to travel. It was difficult for them to leave her behind, so they went to the monk and said: "We want to travel, and we do not find anyone more trustworthy in our estimation and more secure than you. If you see fit, we will place our sister with you, for she is suffering greatly. If she dies, attend to her, and if she lives, treat her well until we return." He said: "I will take care of her, if Allah wills." So he stayed with her and nursed her until she recovered and her beauty returned. He happened to look at her and found her adorned. Satan ceased not to whisper to him until he committed adultery with her, and she became pregnant. Then Satan made him feel remorse and enticed him to kill her. When her brothers returned, they asked him: "What did you do?" He said: "She died, so I buried her." They said: "You did well." They began to see in their dreams and were informed that the monk had killed her and that she was under such-and-such tree. They went to the tree and found that she had indeed been killed. They proceeded toward him and seized him. Then Satan said: "I am the one who enticed you to commit adultery and enticed you to kill her. So will you give in to me and I will save you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then prostrate to me just one prostration." So he prostrated to him, and then he was killed. That is the saying of Allah: "Like the example of Satan when he said to man, 'Disbelieve.'" (the verse) (1)

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: كَمَثَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِذْ قَالَ لِلْإِنسَانِ اكْفُرْ
١٨٨٦٠ - مِنْ طَرِيقِ الْعَوْفِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: كَمَثَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ الْآيَةَ قَالَ: كَانَ رَاهِبٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ يَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ فَيُحْسِنُ عِبَادَتَهُ، وَكَانَ يُؤْتَى مِنْ كُلِّ أَرْضٍ فَيُسْأَلُ عَنِ الْفِقْهِ، وَكَانَ عَالِمًا، وَإِنَّ ثَلاثَةَ إِخْوَةٍ لَهُمْ أُخْتٌ حَسْنَاءُ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ وَإِنَّهُمْ أَرَادُوا أَنْ يُسَافِرُوا وَكَبُرَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَدْعُوهَا ضَائِعَةً فَعَمَدُوا إِلَى الرَّاهِبِ فَقَالُوا: إِنَّا نُرِيدَ السَّفَرَ وَإِنَّا لَا نَجِدُ أَحَدًا أَوْثَقَ فِي أَنْفُسِنَا وَلا آمَنَ عِنْدَنَا مِنْكَ، فَإِنْ رَأَيْتَ جَعَلْنَا أُخْتَنَا عِنْدَكَ فَإِنَّهَا شَدِيدَةُ الْوَجَعِ، فَإِنْ مَاتَتْ فَقُمْ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنْ عَاشَتْ فَأَصْلِحْ إِلَيْهَا حتى ترجع فَقَالَ: أَكْفِيكُمْ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، فَقَامَ عَلَيْهَا فَدَاوَاهَا حَتَّى بَرِئَتْ وَعَادَ إِلَيْهَا حُسْنُهَا، وَأَنَّهُ اطَّلَعَ إِلَيْهَا فَوَجَدَهَا مُتَصَنِّعَةً، وَلَمْ يَزَلْ بِهِ الشَّيْطَانُ حَتَّى وَقَعَ عَلَيْهَا فَحَمَلَتْ ثُمَّ نَدَّمَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُ قَتْلَهَا، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ إِخْوَتُهَا سَأَلُوهُ مَا فَعَلْتَ؟ قَالَ: مَاتَتْ، فَدَفَنْتُهَا قَالُوا: أَحْسَنْتَ، فَجَعَلُوا يَرَوْنَ فِي الْمَنَامِ وَيُخْبَرُونَ أَنَّ الرَّاهِبَ قَتَلَهَا وَأَنَّهَا تَحْتَ شَجَرَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَأَنَّهُمْ عَمَدُوا إِلَى الشَّجَرَةِ فَوَجَدُوهَا قَدْ قُتِلَتْ، فَعَمَدُوا إِلَيْهِ فَأَخَذُوهُ فَقَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ: أَنَّا الَّذِي زَيَّنْتُ لَكَ الزِّنَا وَزَيَّنْتُ لَكَ قَتْلَهَا، فَهَلْ لك أن تعطيني وَأُنَجِّيَكَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ:
فَاسْجُدْ لِي سَجْدَةً وَاحِدَةً، فَسَجَدَ لَهُ ثُمَّ قُتِلَ، فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ: كَمَثَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِذْ قَالَ لِلْإِنسَانِ اكْفُرْ الآية «١» .
