His saying, the Almighty: "A good example"

18861 - By way of Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "There has certainly been for you (in them) a good example," he said: In the entire conduct of Abraham, except for seeking forgiveness for his father, for he shall not be forgiven as he is a polytheist. (1)

His saying, the Almighty: "(as) a trial"

18862 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Do not make us a trial for the disbelievers," he says: Do not empower them over us so that they may persecute us. (2)

His saying, the Almighty: "Affection"

18863 - From Ibn Shihab that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) appointed Abu Sufyan ibn Harb over a part of Yemen. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed away, he came back and encountered Dhu al-Khimar as an apostate and fought him. He was the first to fight during the apostasy and strive for the sake of the religion. Ibn Shihab said: And he is among those regarding whom Allah revealed: "It may be that Allah will grant between you and those with whom you have had enmity among them, affection." (3)

18864 - From 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, who said: Qutaylah bint 'Abd al-'Uzza came to her daughter Asma' bint Abi Bakr with gifts of lizards, dried yogurt, and ghee while she was still a polytheist. Asma' refused to accept her gift or allow her into her house until she sent someone to 'Aisha to ask the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) about this. She asked him, and Allah revealed: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion..." until the end of the verse. So he ordered her to accept her gift and allow her into her house. (4)

His saying, the Almighty: "(as) emigrants"

18865 - From Yazid ibn Abi Habib (may Allah be pleased with him) that it reached him that it was revealed...
