Sūrat al-Muddaththir (The Cloaked One)

His (Exalted is He) saying: "O you who are cloaked (yā ayyuhā al-muddaththir)."
19028 - From Ibn ʿAbbās (may God be pleased with both of them), regarding "O you who are cloaked," he said: The sleeper. And regarding "and your garments, purify (wa-thiyābaka fa-ṭahhir)," he said: Let not your garments which you wear be from illicit earnings. And regarding "and all impurity, shun (wa-al-rujza fa-hjur)," he said: The idols. And regarding "and do not confer favor to acquire more (wa-lā tamnun tastakthir)," he said: Do not give a gift seeking something better than it in return.
His (Exalted is He) saying: "and your garments, purify."
19029 - From Ibn ʿAbbās (may God be pleased with both of them), regarding "and your garments, purify," he said: From sin. He said: In the speech of the Arabs, it means the cleanliness of the garments.
19030 - From ʿIkrimah, that Ibn ʿAbbās was asked about His saying: "and your garments, purify." He said: Do not wear them while committed to treachery or wickedness. Then he said: Do you not hear the words of Ghaylān ibn Salamah:
Truly, I, by the praise of God, possess no wicked garment, / Nor do I cloak myself in treachery.
His (Exalted is He) saying: "Leave Me with the one I created alone," and the subsequent verses.
19031 - From Mujāhid, regarding "Leave Me with the one I created alone (dhar-nī wa-man khalaqtu waḥīdā)," he said: It was revealed concerning al-Walīd ibn al-Mughīrah. Regarding "alone (waḥīdā)," he said: I created him alone; he had neither wealth nor children. Regarding "and I granted him wealth extended (wa-jaʿaltu lahu mālan mamdūdā)," he said: One thousand dinars. Regarding "and children present (wa-banīna shuhūdā)," he said: They were ten [in number], never absent. Regarding "and I spread for him a [fitting] preparation (wa-mahhadtu lahu tamhīdā)," he said: I expanded for him wealth and children. Regarding "then he desires that I should increase [him] (thumma yaṭmaʿu an azīda). No! (kallā)," he said: He continued to see a decrease in his wealth and his children until he perished. Regarding "Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate (innahu kāna li-āyātinā ʿanīdā)," he said: Opposing them, turning away from them. Regarding "I will force him up a mounting [ordeal] (sa-urhiquhu ṣaʿūdā)," he said: A difficulty of punishment.
