His statement, the Exalted: "Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?"
19249 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allāh be pleased with them both), he said: The Overwhelming is the Resurrection.
His statement, the Exalted: "[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled..." up to His statement, the Exalted: "There will be for them no food except from a thorny plant."

"[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled," he said: Abased in the Fire. "Working, toil-worn," he said: They were arrogant in the world against the obedience of Allāh, so He made them work and toil in the Fire. "They will be given to drink from a boiling spring," he said: A vessel that has been boiling since Allāh created the heavens and the earth. "There will be for them no food except from a thorny plant," he said: The shabraq (a type of thorny plant); it is the worst, most hideous, and most vile of food.
19251 - My father narrated to us, ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭanāfisī narrated to us, Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAmr ibn Maymūn, who said: The Prophet (may Allāh bless him and grant him peace) passed by a woman reciting "Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?" He stood listening and saying: "Yes, it has reached me."
19252 - On the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr regarding "[Some] faces, that Day," he said: Meaning in the Hereafter.
19253 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, working, toil-worn," he said: Meaning the Jews and the Christians; they will be humbled but their deeds will not benefit them. "They will be given to drink from a boiling spring," he said: It reaches the peak of its boiling.
19254 - On the authority of ʿIkrimah (may Allāh be pleased with him) regarding His statement "working, toil-worn," he said: Working in the world with sins, toiling in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection. "Except from a thorny plant," he said: The shabraq.
19255 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His statement: "They will enter a scorching Fire," he said: Hot. "They will be given to drink from a boiling spring," he said: Its heat has reached its limit. "There will be for them no food except from a thorny plant," he says: From a tree of Fire.
