19456 - From Qatādah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding "Competition in worldly increase diverts you," he said: They used to say: "We are more numerous than the tribe of so-and-so, and the tribe of so-and-so is more numerous than the tribe of so-and-so," and this diverted them until they died while astray.

19457 - From Qatādah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Competition in worldly increase diverts you," he said: It was revealed concerning the Jews.

19458 - From ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, that he recited: "Competition in worldly increase diverts you. Until you visit the graves." Then he said: "I see the graves as nothing but a visit, and a visitor must inevitably return to his home."

The saying of the Exalted: "No! If you only knew with the knowledge of certainty."

19459 - From Qatādah regarding "No! If you only knew with the knowledge of certainty," he said: We used to be told that the knowledge of certainty is to know that Allah will resurrect him after death.

The saying of the Exalted: "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight."

It was said: A questioner will ask every possessor of a blessing about that with which He blessed him.

19460 - From Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight," he said: [About] the health of the bodies, the hearing, and the sights. Allah will ask the servants about how they utilized them, and He is more knowing of that than them.

19461 - From Ibn Masʿūd, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding His saying: "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight," he said: "Security and health."

19461 - From ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, that he was asked about His saying: "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight," he said: "About eating wheat bread and drinking cool Euphrates water, and he had a home in which he lived; that is of the delight about which he will be questioned."

19462 - From ʿIkrimah, he said: When this verse, "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight," was revealed, the Companions said: "And about what delight will we be questioned, O Messenger of Allah, when we only eat barley bread to half of our stomachs?" So Allah inspired His Prophet to say to them: "Do you not wear sandals and drink cold water? For this is of the delight."
