19463 - Abū Zurʿah narrated to us, Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā al-Khazzāz al-Muqrī narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĪsā Abū Khālid al-Khazzāz narrated to us, Yūnus ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that he heard ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out at the time of noon and found Abū Bakr in the mosque. He said: "What has brought you out, O son of al-Khaṭṭāb?" He said: "The same thing that brought you two out." Then ʿUmar joined them, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began to speak to them, then he said: "Do you two have any strength to go to these palm trees so that we may obtain food, drink, and shade?" We said: "Yes." He said: "Let us go to the home of Ibn al-Tayyān, Abū al-Haytham al-Anṣārī." He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went ahead of us, and he greeted and asked permission three times, and the mother of al-Haytham was behind the door, hearing the speech, wanting the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to increase his greeting. When he intended to turn away, the mother of al-Haytham came out running after them and said: "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I heard your greeting, but I wanted you to increase your greeting to us." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said something good to her, then he said: "Where is Abū al-Haytham? I do not see him." She said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is near, he went to fetch some fresh water. Enter, for he will come at any moment, if Allah wills." She spread a mat under a tree, then Abū al-Haytham came and was happy to see them, and his eyes were delighted by them. He climbed a palm tree and cut some clusters for them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: "That is enough for you, O Abū al-Tayyān al-Haytham." He said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), eat from its unripe dates, its fresh dates, and its dry dates." Then he brought them water and they drank it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "This is of the delight about which you will be questioned."
19464 - Abū Zurʿah narrated to us, Musaddad narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr, from Yaḥyā ibn Ḥāṭib, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr, he said: Al-Zubayr said: When "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight" was revealed, they said: "O Messenger of Allah, about what delight will we be questioned, for they are only the two black ones: dates and water?" He said: "That will surely come to pass."
19465 - Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ẓah-rānī narrated to us, Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar al-ʿAdanī narrated to us, from al-Ḥakam ibn Abān, from ʿIkrimah, he said: When this verse, "Then, on that Day, you will surely be questioned about the delight," was revealed, the Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, and what delight are we in, when we only eat barley bread to half of our stomachs?" So Allah inspired His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to say to them: "Do you not wear sandals and drink cold water? For this is of the delight."
