His saying, the Almighty: "And not equal are the blind and the seeing."
17971 - From Qatadah regarding "And not equal are the blind and the seeing"—he said: This is a parable that God has set forth for the disbeliever and the believer. He says: Just as this one and that one are not equal, likewise the disbeliever and the believer are not equal.
His saying, the Almighty: "Nor are the darknesses and the light."
17971 - From al-Suddi (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And not equal are the blind and the seeing"—he said: [They are] the disbeliever and the believer. "Nor are the darknesses"—he said: Unbelief. "Nor the light"—he said: Belief. "Nor the shade"—he said: Paradise. "Nor the heat"—he said: The Fire. "And not equal are the living and the dead"—he said: The believer and the disbeliever. "Indeed, God makes hear whom He wills"—he said: He guides whom He wills.
His saying, the Almighty: "And you cannot make those in the graves hear."
17972 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "And you cannot make those in the graves hear"—[it means] likewise, the disbeliever does not hear, nor does he benefit from what he hears. And regarding His saying: "And there was no nation but that there had passed within it a warner"—he says: Every nation had a messenger who came to it from God. And regarding His saying: "And if they deny you, then those before them also denied"—he said: He is consoling His Prophet. "Their messengers came to them with clear signs, and with scriptures, and with the enlightening book... Then how was My rejection?"—he said: Severe. By God, He hastened the punishment of the world for them, then delivered them to the Fire.
His saying, the Almighty: "Fruits of diverse colors."
17973 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may God be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "Fruits of diverse colors"—he said: The white, the red, and the black. And regarding His saying: "And among the mountains are streaks white"—he said: White paths, meaning the colors.
His saying, the Almighty: "And intensely black."
17974 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih narrated to us, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn 'Ali narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "And intensely black" means [those which are] intense in blackness.
17975 - From Abu Malik (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And among the mountains are streaks"—he said: Paths that are in the mountain, white and red; those are the streaks. And "intensely black"—he said: Black mountains.
