Abbas (may God be pleased with both of them) that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "When the Day of Resurrection occurs, it will be said: Where are those of sixty years? That is the age which Allah referred to [saying]: 'Did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember to remember? And the warner came to you.'"
18007 - From al-Hasan (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember to remember?'—he said: Forty years.
18008 - From Qatadah (may God be pleased with him) regarding the verse—he said: Know that a long life is a proof [against one], so we seek refuge in Allah from being reproached for a long life. He said: It was revealed while there were among them those who were eighteen years old. Regarding His saying: 'And the warner came to you'—he said: He used the life span and the messengers as a proof against them.
18009 - Abu al-Safar Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Malik ibn Qur'ah narrated to us in Samarra, Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri' narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi Ayyub narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Ajlan narrated to me, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah (may God be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Whoever reaches sixty years of age, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has left no excuse for him regarding his life span."
His saying, the Almighty: 'And the warner came to you.'
18010 - From al-Suddi (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'And the warner came to you'—he said: Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
18011 - From Ibn Zayd (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'And the warner came to you'—he said: Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he recited: 'This is a warner among the warners of old.'
18012 - From 'Ikrimah (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'And the warner came to you'—he said: Gray hair.
His saying, the Almighty: 'It is He who made you successors upon the earth.'
18013 - From Qatadah (may God be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'It is He who made you successors upon the earth'—he said: A nation after a nation.
