His saying, the Exalted: "Are they a stronger creation, or those whom We have created?"
18142 - From Mujahid, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Are they a stronger creation, or those whom We have created?" He said: "The heavens, the earth, and the mountains."
18143 - From Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Or those whom We have created?" He said: "Or those whom We have numbered for you from the creation of the heavens and the earth. Allah, the Exalted, said: 'The creation of the heavens and the earth is greater than the creation of mankind.'"
18144 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Or those whom We have created?" He said: "From the dead and the angels."
His saying, the Exalted: "From sticky clay."
18145 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "From sticky clay," he said: "Adhesive."
18146 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "From sticky clay," he said: "'Al-lazib' (sticky), 'al-hama' (black mud), and 'al-tin' (clay) are one. It was first dust, then it became a stinking black mud, then it became sticky clay, and from it Allah created Adam."
18147 - From Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "'Al-lazib' is that which sticks one part to another."
18148 - From Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "'Al-lazib' is that which sticks to the hand."
His saying, the Exalted: "But you wonder, and they mock."
18149 - From Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, that he used to recite: "But I wondered (bal 'ajibtu)" and they mock, with the damma (nominative case).
18150 - By the path of al-A'mash, from Shaqiq ibn Salamah, from Shurayh, may Allah be pleased with him, that he used to recite this verse: "But you wondered (bal 'ajibta)" and they mock, with the fatha (accusative case), and he would say: "Verily, Allah does not wonder at anything; wonder only belongs to the one who does not know." Al-A'mash said: "So I mentioned that to Ibrahim al-Nakha'i..."
