690: 3738: That: 1: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: Abu Rafi' al-Qurazi said when the Jewish and Christian scholars of the people of Najran gathered at the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he invited them to Islam: "Do you want, O Muhammad, that we worship you as the Christians worship Jesus son of Mary?" A man from the people of Najran, a Christian who was called the Leader (al-Ra'is), said: "Is that what you want from us, O Muhammad, and is that to what you invite us?" Or as he said. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) replied: "Allah forbid that we should worship other than Allah, or that we should command the worship of other than Allah; it is not for that which I was sent, nor is that what I have been commanded."
