Authentic. Agreed upon. It was narrated by al-Bukhari (hadith 1944), Muslim in (Fasting, hadith 1113), Abu Dawud (hadith 2404), and al-Tirmidhi (hadith 710) from the hadith of Jabir, who said: This is a hasan sahih hadith. It was also narrated by al-Nasa'i in (Fasting, Chapters 54-55: Fasting while traveling), al-Darimi (hadith 1708), Malik in (Fasting, Chapter on the fasting of the traveler, hadith 21), and Ahmad (1/266, 334).

Regarding his statement: "al-Qadid," it is a flowing spring located seven stages or so from Medina, and two stages from Makkah. It is famously known to be located at a distance of four burud from Makkah, and every barid is four farsakhs, and every farsakh is three miles. Thus, the total is forty-eight miles. This is the well-known distance upon which the majority of scholars rely.

312: 1658: Let him fast it: 2: I say: This is an abrogated hadith, abrogated by the saying of the Almighty: "So whoever of you sights the month, let him fast it."

Al-Tirmidhi narrated in his Sunan from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah in a marfu' (attributed) manner: "Whoever breaks his fast for one day of Ramadan without a concession or illness, fasting for the rest of his life will not compensate for it, even if he performs it."
