Al-Qurtubi said in his "Tafsir: 4/2453": His saying, the Almighty: "And leave those who took their religion" is a threat, like His saying: "Leave them to eat and enjoy." Its meaning is: Do not grieve for them, for you are only tasked with delivering the message and reminding them by exposing the souls. Whoever is exposed (ubsila) has submitted and is held hostage. It is also said: Its root is prohibition (tahrim), from their saying: "This is basl (forbidden) for you," meaning forbidden. This is the meaning of His saying: "He has companions inviting him to guidance," yet he refuses. Abu Umar said: His mother is Umm Ruman bint al-Harith ibn Ghanam al-Kinaniyyah, and thus he is the brother of Aisha. Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr witnessed Badr and Uhud with his people as an unbeliever and called for a duel, so his father stood up to duel him, and he remembered that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Grant me your life (i.e., stay away from me)." Then he embraced Islam, and his Islam became good, and he accompanied the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, during the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
