2442 - al-Hasan b. al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, he said: Ma'mar said, Qatadah said: Their prophet who was after Musa was Yusha' b. Nun (Joshua), and he is one of the two men whom Allah favored. He said: And I think he is also: the youth of Musa, peace be upon him.

2443 - Muhammad b. Hammad al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, Isma'il b. 'Abd al-Karim al-San'ani narrated to us, 'Abd al-Samad b. Ma'qil narrated to me, that he heard Wahb b. Munabbih saying regarding His saying: "When they said to a prophet of theirs, 'Send for us a king, [that] we may fight in the way of Allah'": He said: They said to Shamwil (Samuel): "Send for us a king, [that] we may fight in the way of Allah." He said: "Allah has sufficed you the fighting." They said: "We fear those around us, so let there be for us a king to whom we may resort." So Allah revealed to Shamwil to send Talut (Saul) to them as a king and to anoint him with the holy oil.

Abi Zurayq reported to us, Khalid al-Rab'i reported to us, he said: The Children of Israel said to a prophet of theirs: "Send for us a king, [that] we may fight in the way of Allah." The prophet said to them: "Indeed, a prophet is more lenient for you, and indeed a king has some severity and harshness." He said: So they said: "Call upon your Lord for us that He may send us a king [that] we may fight in the way of Allah."

2447 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "'Would you perhaps, if fighting was prescribed for you, not fight?'" So Sham'un said to them: "Perhaps if fighting is prescribed for you, you will not fight."
