الترجمة · EN

al-Thawri, from Qays b. Muslim, from Sa'id b. Jubayr regarding His saying: "Do you not believe?" He said, "Yes," meaning: Do you not believe that I am your friend?

2693 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, who said: "Do you not believe that I am your friend?" He says: "Do you confirm it?" He said, "Yes."

His saying, the Exalted: "He said, 'Yes.'"

2694 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, reported to us, Ibn Abi Salamah reported to me, from Muhammad b. al-Munkadir, that he said: 'Abdullah b. 'Abbas and 'Abdullah b. 'Amr b. al-'As met. Ibn 'Abbas said to Ibn 'Amr b. al-'As: "Which verse in the Qur'an is the most hopeful to you?" 'Abdullah b. 'Amr said: "The saying of Allah: 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair.'" Ibn 'Abbas said: "But I say: The saying of Allah: 'And when Abraham said, "My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead." He said, "Do you not believe?" He said, "Yes."' So He was satisfied with his answer: 'Yes.' This is for what occurs in the breasts and what Satan whispers."

His saying: "But that my heart may be settled."

[The first interpretation]

2695 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab reported to us, Bishr b. 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding the saying of Allah: "But that my heart may be settled," he says: "So that I may see some of Your signs and know that You have answered me." So Allah, the Exalted, said: "So take four of the birds," and he did what he did.

2696 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih reported to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "He said, 'Yes, but that my heart may be settled,'" he says: "That You answer me when I call upon You, and grant me when I ask You."

[The second interpretation]

2697 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' reported to us, from Sufyan, from Qays b. Muslim, from Sa'id b. Jubayr: "But that my heart may be settled," he said: "To be certain."
