1930 - Yunus b. Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Tamimi, who said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas about the saying of Allah: "And to destroy the tilth and the offspring," he said: The tilth is the crops. It was also narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah, Mujahid, 'Ata', 'Ikrimah, al-Rabi' b. Anas, Qatadah, Makhul, and al-Suddi.
1931 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from al-Nadr b. 'Arabi, from Mujahid, it was said to him: "O Abu al-Hajjaj, how is the destruction of the tilth and the offspring?" He said: He assumes power on earth and acts therein with aggression and injustice, whereby rain from the sky is withheld; thus, by the withholding of rain, the tilth and the offspring are destroyed.
1932 - Ahmad b. al-Azhar informed us in what he wrote to me, Wahb b. Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from 'Ali b. al-Hakam, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "And to destroy the tilth," he said: As for the tilth, it is the crops and the established origin.

1934 - Muhammad b. Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from 'Abd Allah b. 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And to destroy the tilth and the offspring," [he said]: The offspring of every living creature and also mankind. It was also narrated from Mujahid, 'Ata', and Qatadah, similar to this.
