3033 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tehrani narrated to me, Hafs b. 'Umar reported to us, al-Hakam b. Aban reported to us, 'Ikrimah narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas: The writing is much, but he means: an inkwell and paper.

3034 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And if you are on a journey and find no scribe," he means: You are not able to write the debt while on a journey.

[The second aspect]

3035 - My father narrated to us, al-Mu'alla b. Asad reported to us, Khalid b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, Yazid b. Aba Ziyad reported to us, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he used to read: "And you find no scribe." He said: Sometimes they might find a scribe, but do not find the inkwell and the scroll.

A similar [report] was narrated from Mujahid and Abu al-'Aliyah.

His saying, the Almighty: "Then pledges in possession"

[The first aspect]

3036 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' reported to us, from Sharik, from Salim, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "Then pledges in possession," he said: A pledge (rahn) cannot be except in possession, possessed by the one to whom the property is owed.

3037 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Then pledges in possession," he says: Let the one to whom the right is owed take a pledge from the one from whom it is sought.

[The second aspect]

3038 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah reported to us, Shibl reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding "Then pledges in possession," he said: A pledge cannot be except in a journey.

[The third aspect]

3039 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Musa b. Harun reported to us, Marwan reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding "Then pledges in possession," he means by that: It is not appropriate, if it is a sale during a journey and one finds a scribe, to take a pledge; rather, he should write his right until its term.
