[The fourth aspect]

3040 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. 'Amir b. Zurarah al-Khazzaz reported to us, Sharik reported to us, from Abu Bakr, from 'Amir, regarding His saying: "Then pledges in possession," he said: It is abrogated. As for "If one of you trusts another," he means: That [verse] abrogated it.

His saying: "If one of you trusts another"

[The first aspect]

3041 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim b. Mahdi reported to us, Muhammad b. Marwan al-'Uqayli reported to us, 'Abd al-Malik b. Abi Nadrah reported to us, from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that he recited this verse: "O you who have believed, when you contract a debt..." until he reached: "If one of you trusts another." He said: This abrogated what was before it.

3042 - al-Hasan b. Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq reported to us from al-Thawri and Ma'mar, from Ibn Shubrumah, from al-Sha'bi, regarding His saying: "If one of you trusts another," he said: There is no harm if you trust him, not to write it down and not to call for witnesses, because of His saying: "If one of you trusts another."

[The second aspect]

3043 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Musa b. Harun reported to us, Marwan reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding "If one of you trusts another... [or] whoever finds none," [he said:] It is an obligation (azmah) to write and call for witnesses, and one should not take a pledge if he finds a scribe, just as He said in [the verse of] zihar: "And whoever does not find [any], then a fast of two months consecutively," and just as He said in [the verse of] compensation for hunting: "From whatever is available of the sacrificial animal." Thus, this resembles one another. The Verse of Debt is a ruling which Allah judged, detailed, and clarified; therefore, it is not for anyone to choose [arbitrarily] in the ruling of Allah.

[The third aspect]

3044 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah reported to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar reported to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "If one of you trusts another," he says: If the one who owes the right is trustworthy to the owner of the right, then he does not take a pledge, because of his confidence and good opinion of him.
