Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "Out of envy between themselves," he says: Envy over the world and the seeking of its kingdom and authority, so some of them killed others over the world after they had been the learned people.

Abu Muhammad said: It was narrated from Sa'id b. Jubayr regarding "Out of envy between themselves": Their wealth increased, so they disputed over it.
