The third viewpoint:
2054 - My father narrated to us, 'Ubayis b. Marhum narrated to us, Hatim narrated to us, Ja'far b. Muhammad narrated to us, from his father, from 'Ali b. Abi Talib, that he used to say: "Chess is from maysir (gambling)."
The fourth viewpoint:
2055 - My father narrated to us, al-Qa'nabi narrated to us, he said: I read to Malik, from Dawud b. Husayn, that he heard Sa'id b. al-Musayyib saying: "It was among the maysir of the people of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era) to sell meat for one or two sheep."
The fifth viewpoint:
2056 - Ahmad b. 'Isam narrated to us, Rawh narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. 'Umar narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah b. 'Umar, he said: I asked al-Qasim b. Muhammad about nard (backgammon): "Is it from maysir?" He said: "Everything that distracts from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer is maysir."
The sixth viewpoint:
2057 - Muhammad b. 'Aziz al-Ayli narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from 'Uqayl, from Ibn Shihab, that al-A'raj said: "Maysir is betting with arrows (qidah) on wealth and fruits."
The seventh viewpoint:
2058 - My father narrated to us, al-'Abbas b. al-Walid al-Khallal narrated to us, Ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, Sulayman b. Salim narrated to us, from Yahya b. Jabir, from Yazid b. Shurayh, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Three things are from maysir: the pigeon (gaming) at the bathhouse, gambling, and throwing dice."
His saying: "Say, in them is great sin"
2059 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "Say, in them is great sin," meaning: In what is lost of religion when drinking them.
2060 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, he said: Allah said: "In them is great sin," because in drinking khamr and gambling, there is the abandonment of prayer and the abandonment of the remembrance of Allah.
