His saying, the Exalted: "And let them speak"

4875 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "So let them fear Allah and let them speak," [he said]: They should speak to the deceased, when they sit with him, a sound speech.

[His saying, the Exalted: "a sound speech"]

[The first view]

4876 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, 'Amr al-'Anqari reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "So let them fear Allah and let them speak a sound speech," he said: When a person is present at the time of the bequest, it is not appropriate for him to be told: "Bequeath your wealth, for Allah is the Provider for your children." Rather, it should be said to him: "Advance [charity] for your own soul, and leave [wealth] for your children." This is the "sound speech." It is as if the one who commands this fears poverty for himself.

4877 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "a sound speech," meaning: justice in his bequest, so that he does not act wrongfully.

And the second view:

4878 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa reported to us, Ibn Abi Za'idah informed us, Mubarak informed us, from al-Hasan regarding: "And let them speak a sound speech," he said: [It means] truth.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, those who consume the wealth of orphans unjustly"

4879 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Imran ibn 'Uyaynah reported to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: When [the verse] "Indeed, those who consume the wealth of orphans unjustly" was revealed, every man who had an orphan under his care began to separate his [the orphan's] wealth individually, and this was difficult for the Muslims. So Allah the Exalted revealed: "And Allah knows the corrupter from the reformer," and He permitted them to mix [their wealth] with theirs. Abu Muhammad said: A similar [view] was narrated from Mujahid, al-Hasan, al-Sha'bi, 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, and al-Dahhak.
