[His saying, the Exalted: "But if you dislike them," the verse.]

5043 - And with the same chain, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "But if you dislike them, perhaps you dislike a thing..." He said: He divorces her, and she marries a man after him, and Allah grants him a child from her.

His saying, the Exalted: "Perhaps you dislike a thing"

5044 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Perhaps" (fasa), he said: "Perhaps" from Allah is obligatory.

His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah makes in it"

[The first interpretation]

5045 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And Allah makes in it much good," he said: And Allah makes in her child much good.

[The second interpretation]

5046 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And Allah makes in it much good," meaning: Perhaps Allah will make good within the dislike.

[The third interpretation]

5047 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And Allah makes in it much good," he said: And Allah makes much good in her marriage.

His saying, the Exalted: "Much good"

5048 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And Allah makes in it much good," and the "much good" is that the man becomes affectionate toward her, and the man is blessed with her child.

5049 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And Allah makes in it much good," as for "much good," it is the child.

His saying, the Exalted: "And if you wish to replace one wife with another"

5050 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih—the scribe of al-Layth—narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And if you wish to replace one wife with another," he said: If you dislike your wife and you like another, so you divorce this one and marry that one. (It was also narrated from Mujahid and Muqatil ibn Hayyan something similar).
