loves three and hates three. He said: Yes, would I dare lie about my intimate friend three times? I said: Who are the three whom He hates? He said: The self-deluding, boastful one. Do you not find it with you in the revealed Book of Allah? Then he recited the verse: "Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful." I said: And who? He said: The self-deluding, overly-generous-by-boastfulness (al-mannan) one.

5314 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, from Khalid, from Abu Tamimah, from a man from Bal-Hujaym, who said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, advise me. He said: "Beware of trailing your lower garment (isbal al-izar), for trailing the lower garment is from conceit (al-makheelah), and indeed Allah does not love conceit."

5315 - Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Malik al-Susi narrated to us, Abu Bilal—meaning: al-Ash'ari—narrated to us, Zafir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from al-Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-'Awwam ibn Hawshab, who said: "You will hardly find someone with a bad disposition" except that you find him to be self-deluding and boastful. Then he recited: "And those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful."

5316 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn Yaman narrated to us, from Ash'ath, from Ja'far, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding "Those who are stingy and enjoin upon people stinginess," he said: This is in regard to knowledge, having nothing to do with worldly matters.

5317 - My father narrated to us, Sulayman ibn 'Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Salt narrated to us, Abu Kudaynah narrated to us, from Abu Sinan, from Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: The scholars of the Children of Israel used to be stingy with the knowledge they possessed and would forbid scholars from teaching people anything, so Allah rebuked them for that and revealed: "Those who are stingy..." [the verse].

5318 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Rawh ibn 'Ubadah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Malik ibn Jurayj narrated to us, from his father, Ibn Tawus informed me, from his father, who said: Stinginess is for a man to be stingy with what is in his own hands.
