His saying, the Exalted: "[and] a compensation payment handed over to his family, and the setting free of a believing slave."

[5802] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "a compensation payment handed over to his family," [meaning]: The killer must pay the blood money, handed over to his family.

5803 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, al-Layth narrated to me, 'Aqil narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab: "a compensation payment handed over to his family," [He said]: It reached us that the blood money of the mu'ahid (covenant-holder) was like the blood money of a Muslim, then it was decreased afterwards in the later time and was made equivalent to half the blood money of a Muslim, and that Allah, the Exalted, ordered the handing over of the blood money of the mu'ahid to his family and mandated along with it the setting free of a believing slave.

5804 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "a compensation payment handed over to his family," he said: To the family of the slain person from the people of the covenant from the polytheists of the Arabs.

His saying, the Exalted: "And whoever does not find [it]."

[5805] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And whoever does not find [it]," he says: Whoever does not find the blood money for his emancipation in the case of killing a believer by mistake.

5806 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And whoever does not find [it]," he said: Whoever does not find a slave, then [he must perform] the fasting of two months. It was narrated from Muqatil something similar.

5807 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Tammar narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from 'Ikrimah, who said: If it is "whoever does not find," then the first [obligation is] the first [in order].

His saying, the Exalted: "then [the fast of] two consecutive months."

[5808] al-Mundhir ibn Shadhan narrated to us, Ya'la narrated to us, Zakariyya narrated to us, from 'Amir, who said: Masruq was asked about His saying: "then [the fast of] two consecutive months." So they asked him about the fasting of two consecutive months, [is it in lieu of] the slave alone, or [in lieu of] the blood money and the slave? He said: Whoever does not find [the means] for the blood money and the slave.
