4105 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand of the angels marked [for battle]" - and that was on the day of Badr; Allah reinforced them with five thousand of the angels.

[The First Interpretation]
4106 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from Harithah ibn Mudarrib, from 'Ali, who said: The mark of the angels on the day of Badr was white wool.
4107 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahim ibn Mutarrif narrated to us, 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from Zakariyya', from Abu Ishaq, from Harithah, from 'Ali, who said: The mark of the angels, the people of Badr, was white wool, and the mark of the angels was also on the forelocks of their horses.
The Second Interpretation:
4108 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Hudbah ibn Khalid narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah regarding this verse: "marked [for battle] (musawwimin)," he said: With red dyed wool ('ihn).
4109 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Yahya al-Razi narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from Layth, from Mujahid regarding: "with five thousand of the angels marked [for battle] (musawwimin)," he said: Their manes were trimmed, and their forelocks were marked with dyed wool ('ihn).
4110 - My father narrated to us, al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated to us, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mujahid regarding his saying: "your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand of the angels marked [for battle] (musawwimin)," he said: Marked with white wool on the tails of the horses.
4111 - 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Shibl, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding: "with five thousand of the angels marked [for battle] (musawwimin)," he said: Marked, the tails of their horses were sheared, and upon them was dyed wool and regular wool.
4112 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "marked [for battle] (musawwimin)," [he said] that they came to Muhammad marked with wool, so Muhammad and his companions marked themselves and their horses with the same mark of wool.
