in Paradise, and your killed ones are in the Fire." Abu Sufyan said: "We have al-'Uzza, and you have no 'Uzza." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Say: Allah is our Protector and you have no protector." Abu Sufyan said: "Exalt Hubal." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Allah is Most High and Most Majestic." Abu Sufyan said: "Our appointment and your appointment is the minor Badr." The Muslims slept while they were wounded. 'Ikrimah said: It was regarding them that it was revealed: "If a wound touches you, then a similar wound has certainly touched the [disbelieving] people. And these days We alternate among the people."

4226 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding: "If a wound touches you," meaning wounds and killing.

It was narrated from al-Suddi, Qatadah, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas that it refers to wounds.

His saying, the Exalted: "then a similar wound has certainly touched the [disbelieving] people"

4227 - al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "If a wound touches you, then a similar wound has certainly touched the [disbelieving] people," and he said: That you were killed on the day of Uhud, you had killed a similar number on the day of Badr.

4228 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "If a wound touches you, then a similar wound has certainly touched the [disbelieving] people." He says: If a wound has afflicted you, then a similar wound has afflicted your enemy. He is consoling the companions of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and urging them to fight.

4229 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, al-Mufaddal informed us, Abu Sakhr narrated to me, regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "If a wound touches you," he said: "The Qarh (wound) is al-jirahat (wounds)." He says: "Then a similar wound has certainly touched the people," and that was on the day of Uhud.

His saying, the Exalted: "And these days We alternate among the people"

[The First Aspect]

4230 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle al-Husayn narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And these days We alternate among the people," for the day of Uhud was [balanced] with the day of Badr; the believers were killed on the day of Uhud, and Allah took martyrs from among them, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, overcame the polytheists on the day of Badr, so He granted him the victory over them.
