His saying: "But that He may test you in what He has given you"

[6490] al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan Abu Ma'in narrated to us, Ibrahim Abu 'Abd Allah al-Harawi narrated to us, Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: Ibn Jurayj said: Ibn Kathir said: I only know it to mean in what He has given you of the Book.

His saying, the Exalted: "So race to all that is good"

[6491] Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, from Abu Sinan, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "So race to all that is good," he said: The nation of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

His saying, the Exalted: "To Allah is your return all together"

[6492] And by the same chain from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "To Allah is your return all together," he said: The righteous and the wicked.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then He will inform you about that over which you used to differ"

[6493] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, he said: Allah will resurrect them after death; He will resurrect His allies and His enemies, and He will inform them of their deeds.

His saying, the Exalted: "And so judge between them"

[6494] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Jamil al-Marwazi narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Sufyan ibn Husayn, from al-Hakam, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "So if they come to you, judge between them or turn away from them," he said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was given the choice in this verse until "Judge between them by what Allah has revealed" was revealed.

[6495] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding: "And so judge between them by what Allah has revealed," for Allah commanded His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to judge between them after He had granted him the license to turn away from them if he wished, so this verse abrogated the one that preceded it.

His saying, the Exalted: "by what Allah has revealed"

[6496] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And so judge between them by what Allah has revealed," he said: With the boundaries (hudud) of Allah.
