His saying, the Almighty: 'Or a matter from Him.'
[6526] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: 'Or a matter from Him,' he said: The matter is the Jizyah (poll tax).
His saying, the Almighty: 'So they will become.'
[6527] It was mentioned from Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah, from 'Amr, [who] heard Ibn al-Zubayr saying: 'So the corrupt ones will become regretful for what they concealed within themselves.'
His saying, the Almighty: 'Regretful for what they concealed within themselves.'
[6528] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'So they will become regretful for what they concealed within themselves,' he says: [This refers to] their friendship with the Jews and their deception toward Islam and its people.
His saying, the Almighty: 'And those who believe will say.'
[6529] Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi narrated to us, Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'Are these the ones who swore by Allah their strongest oaths that they were with you?' [meaning] with the believers.
His saying, the Almighty: 'Their deeds have become worthless, and they have become among the losers.'
[6530] Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Khatmi narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: 'Their deeds have become worthless,' meaning: Their deeds have become void.
His saying, the Almighty: 'O you who have believed.'
[6531] Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by reading, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas (meaning Ibn 'Abbas al-Qabbani) narrated to me, from Abu Sakhr, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, that 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz sent for him one day—and 'Umar was the governor of Madinah at that time—and said: "O Abu Hamzah, [there is] a verse I read last night." Muhammad said: "And what is it, O Prince?" He said: "The saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: 'O you who have believed, whoever among you should revert from his religion—Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him.'"
