[6678] Muhammad ibn ‘Aziz al-Ayli narrated to us, Salamah ibn Rawh narrated to me, from his paternal uncle Ghufayl, Ibn Shihab narrated to me, Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, Abu Bakr ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham, and ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me, they said: The Messenger of God (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent ‘Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri and wrote with him a letter to the Negus. He came to the Negus, who read the letter of the Messenger of God (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), then he called for Ja‘far ibn Abi Talib and the Emigrants who were with him. The Negus sent for the monks and the priests, then he ordered Ja‘far ibn Abi Talib, who recited Surah Maryam to them. They believed in the Quran and their eyes overflowed with tears. They are the ones regarding whom God revealed: "And you will find the nearest of them in affection to the believers are those who say..." up to His saying: "You see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.'"

[6679] My father narrated to us, Mansur ibn Abi Muzahim narrated to us, Abu Sa‘id ibn Abi al-Zajjal narrated to us, from Salim, from Sa‘id, he said: It was revealed regarding the companions of the Negus who accepted Islam, and they were seventy men. The Messenger of God (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) recited to them Surah Ya-Sin, so they wept and accepted Islam. That is His saying: "You see their eyes overflowing with tears."

[6680] My father narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, ‘Umar ibn ‘Ali al-Maqdisi narrated to us, he said: I heard Hisham ibn ‘Urwah narrating from his father, from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, he said: This verse was revealed regarding the Negus and his companions: "And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears," and His saying: "They say, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.'"

[6681] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from Isra’il, from Simak, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding "register us among the witnesses," he said: The nation of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).

[6682] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa narrated to us, Ibn Abi Za’idah informed us, Isra’il narrated to us, from Simak, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding "They say, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses,'" he said: Along with Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his nation, as they have testified that he has conveyed, and they testified for the Messengers that they have conveyed.
