[The Second Aspect]
Those who interpreted it as gambling [al-qimar]:
[6747] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Shuja‘ ibn al-Walid Abu Badr narrated to us, from Musa ibn ‘Uqbah, from Nafi‘, from Ibn ‘Umar, who said: "Al-maysir is gambling [al-qimar]."
[6748] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Al-maysir," he said: "Gambling; they used to gamble in the pre-Islamic era [Jahiliyyah] until the arrival of Islam, so Allah forbade them from these vile character traits."
[6749] Muhammad ibn Isma‘il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Layth, from Mujahid, ‘Ata’, and Tawus—Sufyan said: or two of them—they said: "Everything [that involves] gambling is included in al-maysir, even children's play with walnuts."
It was narrated from Rashid ibn Sa‘d and Damrah ibn Habib similarly, and they both said: "Even dice, walnuts, and eggs which children play with."
[The Third Aspect]
Those who considered al-maysir to be everything that distracts from the remembrance of Allah.
[6750] Bahr ibn Nasr al-Misri narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, he said: Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Salim said: ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Umar narrated to me, he said: Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad was asked about backgammon [al-nard]: "Is it included in al-maysir?" He replied: "Everything that distracts from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer is al-maysir."
[The Fourth Aspect]
Those who considered playing chess to be from al-maysir:
[6751] My father narrated to us, Ibn Marhum narrated to us, Hatim narrated to us, Ja‘far ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, that he used to say: "Chess is from al-maysir."
[The Fifth Aspect]
Those who considered drawing lots with arrows [al-qidh] to be from al-maysir:
[6752] Muhammad ibn ‘Uzayz al-Ayli narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from ‘Uqayl, from Ibn Shihab Abu al-A‘raj, who said: "Al-maysir is drawing lots with arrows regarding wealth and fruits."
[The Sixth Aspect]
Those who considered the sale of meat for an animal to be from al-maysir:
[6753] My father narrated to us, al-Qa‘nabi ‘Abd Allah ibn Maslamah narrated to us, he said: I read to Malik, from

مَنْ فَسَّرَهُ عَلَى أَنَّهُ الْقِمَارُ:
٦٧٤٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا شُجَاعُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ أَبُو بَدْرٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: الْمَيْسِرُ هُوَ الْقِمَارُ.
٦٧٤٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابٌ أَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: الْمَيْسِرُ. قَالَ: الْقِمَارُ، كَانُوا يَتَقَامَرُونَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِلَى مجيئ الإِسْلامِ فَنَهَاهُمُ اللَّهُ عَنْ هَذِهِ الأَخْلاقِ الْقَبِيحَةِ.
٦٧٤٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الأَحْمَسِيُّ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «١» وَعَطَاءٍ وَطَاوُسٍ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ مِنْهُمْ قَالُوا: كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْقِمَارِ فَهُوَ فِي الْمَيْسِرِ حَتَّى لَعِبَ الصِّبْيَانِ بِالْجَوْزِ

وَرُوِيَ عَنْ رَاشِدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَضَمْرَةُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ مِثْلَهُ، وَقَالا حَتَّى الْكِعَابِ وَالْجَوْزِ وَالْبِيضِ الَّتِي يَلْعَبُ بِهَا الصبيان.
[الوجه الثالث]
مَنْ جَعَلَ الْمَيْسِرَ كُلَّ مَا أَلْهَى عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ.
٦٧٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ: سُئِلَ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ النَّرْدِ أَهِيَ فِي الْمَيْسِرِ فَقَالَ: كُلُّ مَا أَلْهَى عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَعَنِ الصَّلاةِ فَهُوَ الميسر.

مَنْ جَعَلَ اللَّعِبَ بِالشِّطْرَنْجِ مِنَ الْمَيْسِرِ:
٦٧٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ مَرْحُومٍ، ثنا حَاتِمٌ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: الشِّطْرَنْجُ مِنَ الْمَيْسِرِ.

مَنْ جَعَلَ الضَّرْبَ بِالْقِدْحِ مِنَ الْمَيْسِرِ:
٦٧٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُزَيْزٍ الأَيْلِيُّ، ثنا سَلامَةُ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ ابن شهاب أبي الأَعْرَجِ قَالَ: الْمَيْسِرُ الضَّرْبُ بِالْقَدَحِ عَلَى الأَمْوَالِ والثمار.

مَنْ جَعَلَ بَيْعَ اللَّحْمِ بِالْحَيَوَانِ مِنَ الْمَيْسِرِ:
