His saying, the Exalted: "reaching the Ka‘bah"

[6810] And by the same chain, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "reaching the Ka‘bah," he said: Its destination is Makkah.

His saying, the Exalted: "or a kaffarah (expiation) of feeding the poor"

[6811] My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from Mansur, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "...a penalty equal to what he has killed from the game, as adjudged by two just men among you, an offering reaching the Ka‘bah, or a kaffarah (expiation) of feeding the poor, or the equivalent of that in fasting." He said: When a person in the state of ihram kills game, he is adjudged [to provide] a half-sa‘ for a day. He said: "or a kaffarah (expiation) of feeding the poor, or the equivalent of that in fasting." He said: What is intended by food and fasting is that when food is found, his penalty is found.

[6812] My father narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, Shu‘ayb ibn Zurayq narrated to us that he heard ‘Ata’ al-Khurasani write: That ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan, ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, Ibn ‘Abbas, Zayd ibn Thabit, and Mu‘awiyah judged regarding whatever offering a person in the state of ihram kills of game, that there is a penalty for it: one should look at the value of that [game] and feed the poor with it.

[6813] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shubanah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "or a kaffarah (expiation) of feeding the poor," he said: He shall purchase food with its price and feed every poor person two mudds.

His saying, the Exalted: "or the equivalent of that in fasting"

[6814] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "an offering reaching the Ka‘bah, or a kaffarah (expiation) of feeding the poor, or the equivalent of that in fasting." So when a person in the state of ihram kills any of the game, he is judged upon it. If he kills an antelope or the like, he must offer a sheep to be slaughtered in Makkah; if he cannot find one, then he feeds six poor persons; if he cannot find [means for that], then he fasts three days. If he kills a camel or the like, he must offer a cow; if he cannot find [one], he feeds twenty poor persons; if he cannot find [means for that], he fasts twenty days. If he kills an ostrich, a wild ass, or the like, he must offer a full-grown camel; if he cannot find [one], he feeds thirty poor persons; if he cannot find [means for that], he fasts thirty days.

[6815] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shubanah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "or the equivalent of that in fasting," he said: He shall fast one day in place of every two mudds.
