Ibn ‘Abbas was riding when locusts passed by him, so he struck them. It was said to him: "You killed game while you are in the state of ihram?" He said: "It is only from the game of the sea."
[6832] Muhammad ibn ‘Uzayr al-Ayli narrated to us, Salamah ibn Rawh narrated to us, from ‘Uqayl ibn Khalid, he said: Ibn Shihab said: I heard Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib mentioning regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Lawful to you is game from the sea and its food," and Sa‘id used to say: The game of the sea is what is eaten of it [when it is found] drowned.
His saying, the Exalted: "and its food as a provision for you"
[The First Aspect]
[6833] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, he said: I heard Sulayman al-Taymi, from Abu Mijlaz, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "and its food," he said: That which it casts out, meaning dead.
[6834] Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, ‘Abdah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ‘Amr, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah regarding His saying: "Lawful to you is game from the sea and its food as a provision for you," he said: That which it casts out dead, that is its food. It was narrated from Zayd ibn Thabit, ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, ‘Ikrimah, Ibrahim al-Nakha‘i, and al-Hasan the like of that.
And the Second Aspect:
[6835] Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Khusayf, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding "and its food as a provision for you," he said: The salted fish that they take as provisions.
[6836] Muhammad ibn ‘Aziz narrated to us, Salamah narrated to me, from ‘Uqayl ibn Khalid, he said: And Ibn Shihab said: I heard Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib mentioning regarding the saying of Allah "and its food": The salted fish.
And the Third Aspect:
[6837] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "and its food," meaning: its salted [meat]. And it is said it means: what the sea casts out. And it is said: its food is its fresh [meat] and its salted [meat].
[6838] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Abu Thabit Muhammad ibn ‘Ubayd Allah narrated to us, ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Ibn Harmalah, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, he said: The food of the sea is what it casts out alive, or that which the water has receded from and it has died.
عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ رَاكِبًا فَمَرَّ عَلَيْهِ جَرَادٌ فَضَرَبَهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ: قَتَلْتَ صَيْدًا وَأَنْتَ حُرُمٌ فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا هُوَ مِنْ صَيْدِ الْبَحْرِ.
٦٨٣٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُزَيْزٍ الأَيْلِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سَلامَةُ بْنُ رَوْحٍ عَنْ عُقَيْلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَذْكُرُ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُ فَكَانَ سَعِيدٌ يَقُولُ: صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ مَا أُكِلَ مِنْهُ غَرِيقًا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَطَعَامُهُ مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ

٦٨٣٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلَهُ: وَطَعَامُهُ قَالَ: مَا قَذَفَ يَعْنِي مَيْتًا.
٦٨٣٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا عَبْدَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُ مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ قَالَ: مَا لَفِظَ مَيْتًا فَهُوَ طَعَامُهُ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، وَأَبِي أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ وَأَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَعِكْرِمَةَ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيِّ، وَالْحَسَنِ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٦٨٣٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ خُصَيْفٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَطَعَامُهُ مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ قَالَ: السَّمَكُ الْمَالِحُ يَتَزَوَّدُونَهُ.
٦٨٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَزِيزٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سَلامَةُ عَنْ عُقَيْلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ: وَقَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَذْكُرُ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَطَعَامُهُ السَّمَكَ الْمَالِحَ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٦٨٣٧ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلَهُ: وَطَعَامُهُ فَيَعْنِي: مَالِحَهُ وَيُقَالُ يَعْنِي: مَا لَفِظَ الْبَحْرُ، وَيُقَالُ: طَعَامُهُ طَرِيُّهُ وَمَالِحُهُ.
٦٨٣٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا أَبُو ثَابِتٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ: طَعَامُ الْبَحْرِ مَا لَفِظَهُ حَيًّا أَوْ حَصَرَ عَنْهُ الْمَاءُ فَمَاتَ.
