The Fourth Aspect:

[6839] My father narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn al-Hakam ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, Nafi‘ ibn Yazid and Yahya ibn Ayyub reported, both said: Ibn Jurayj narrated to us that Abu Bakr ibn Hafs informed him, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that he used to say regarding "and its food as a provision for you": Its food is its dead [creatures].

The Fifth Aspect:

[6840] Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri’ narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from ‘Amr ibn Dinar, from ‘Ikrimah, he said: Abu Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—said regarding "and its food": It means everything that is in it.

His saying, the Exalted: "as a provision for you"

[6841] Ahmad ibn ‘Isam al-Ansari narrated to us, Abu ‘Asim narrated to us, from ‘Uthman ibn Sa‘id, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "as a provision for you," he said: That which the traveler takes as provision.

[6842] ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Hamzah narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri regarding "as a provision for you," he said: It is a provision for you—its fresh [meat], what has been cast out, and what the water has receded from.

[His saying, the Exalted: "and for the travelers"]

[The First Aspect]

[6843] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa’ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid(1) regarding His saying: "and for the travelers": The people of the cities and all classes of people. It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan the like of that.

The Second Aspect:

[6844] My father narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf al-Wasiti narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq al-Kufi, from ‘Ikrimah, that he said regarding His saying: "and for the travelers": He said: Travel.

The Third Aspect:

[6845] Sa‘dan ibn Nusayr narrated to us, Miskin ibn Bukayr narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Salam ibn Habib, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "and for the travelers": He said: They are the prohibited (those in the state of ihram).
