[Surah al-An'am]
6 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
[His saying (the Exalted): "All praise is due to Allah."]
[The First Aspect]
7073 - My father narrated to us, Abu Ma'mar al-Qati'i narrated to us, Hafs narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: 'Umar said: "We have learned 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah) and 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but Allah), but what is 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is due to Allah)?" 'Ali said: "It is a word that Allah has chosen for Himself."
7074 - My father narrated to us, Abu Ma'mar al-Minqari narrated to us, 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an narrated to us, from Yusuf ibn Mihran, he said: Ibn 'Abbas said: "'Al-hamdu lillah' is the word of gratitude. When the servant says 'Al-hamdu lillah', He says: 'My servant has thanked Me.'"
And the Second Aspect:
7075 - 'Ali ibn Tahir narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' Abu Kurayb narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "'Al-hamdu lillah' is: gratitude to Allah, humbleness before Him, acknowledging His favors and His precedence [in bestowing them], and other than that."
And the Third Aspect:
7076 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, Suhayl ibn Abi Salih narrated to us, from his father, from al-Saluli, from Ka'b, he said: "'Al-hamdu lillah' is: the praise of Allah."
And the Fourth Aspect:
7077 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-'Arzami narrated to us, Bazi' Abu Hazim narrated to us, from Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Rahman—meaning: Abu Bistam—from al-Dahhak, he said: "'Al-hamdu lillah' is the mantle of Allah, the Most Gracious, Blessed and Exalted."
His saying (the Exalted): "Who created the heavens and the earth."
