"The matter would have been decided." He says: If We had sent down an angel and then they did not believe, the punishment would have been hastened for them. It was narrated from al-Suddi similar to that.
His saying: "Then they would not be reprieved"
7126 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Then they would not be reprieved," he said: Then they would not believe.
7127 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then they would not be reprieved," he says: Then they would not be given respite.
His saying, the Most High: "And if We had made him an angel"
7128 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "And if We had made him an angel," he says: If an angel had come to them.
His saying: "We would have made him a man"
7129 - And by the same chain from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "And if We had made him an angel, We would have made him a man," he says: If an angel had come to them, he would not have come to them except in the form of a man from among them, because they would not be able to look at the angels.
7130 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Salih narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Hisham narrated to us, Ziyad al-Bakka’i narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) invited his people to Islam, so Zam‘ah ibn al-Aswad, al-Aswad ibn ‘Abd Yaghuth, Ubayy ibn Khalaf, and al-‘As ibn Wa’il said to him: "If only an angel were placed with you, O Muhammad, who would speak to the people on your behalf and be seen with you." So Allah, the Most High, revealed concerning that statement of theirs: "And if We had made him an angel, We would have made him a man, and We would have obscured for them what they obscure."
