ibn 'Umayr, from Khalid—meaning ibn Rabi'—from Ibn Mas'ud regarding His saying: "And Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend (Khalil)" he said: Indeed, Allah has taken your companion as an intimate friend.

[6014] 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Isa ibn Hammad ibn Zughbah narrated to us, Rishdin narrated to us, from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Harithi, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from Qatadah, from Anas, who said: Allah granted the intimate friendship (khullah) to Abraham, speech to Moses, and the vision (of Him) to Muhammad, may Allah bless them all.

[6015] My father narrated to me, Mahmud ibn Khalid al-Sulami narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, from Ishaq ibn Yasar, who said: When Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend, He placed fear in his heart such that the throbbing of his heart could be heard from a distance, just as the throbbing of a bird in the air is heard.

[6016] Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah al-Qazwini narrated to us, Muhammad—meaning ibn Sa'id ibn Sabiq—narrated to us, 'Amr—meaning ibn Abi Qays—narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Abu Rashid, from 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr, who said: Abraham, peace be upon him, used to entertain people. One day, he went out looking for someone to entertain, but he did not find anyone. He returned to his house and found a man standing inside. He said: "O servant of Allah, what brought you into my house without my permission?" He said: "I entered it with the permission of its Lord." He said: "And who are you?" He said: "I am the Angel of Death. My Lord sent me to one of His servants to give him the glad tidings that Allah has taken him as an intimate friend." He said: "Who is he? By Allah, if you tell me who he is, even if he were in the furthest part of the lands, I would come to him, and then I would not leave his side until death separates us." He said: "That servant is you." He said: "Me?" He said: "Yes." He said: "And for what (reason) did my Lord take me as an intimate friend?" He said: "Because you give to people and do not ask them for anything."

His saying, the Almighty: "And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth..."—the verse. Its commentary has preceded.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they ask you for a legal ruling concerning women. Say, 'Allah gives you a ruling about them.'"

[6017] I read to Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Hakam, Ibn Wahb informed us, Yunus informed me, from Ibn Shihab, 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me, who said: 'A'ishah said: Then the people asked the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for a legal ruling after this verse regarding them, so Allah, the Almighty, revealed: "And they ask you for a legal ruling concerning women. Say, 'Allah gives you a ruling about them and [about] what has been recited to you in the Book...'"—the verse.
