Ibn Sawwar, from Kurdus ibn 'Abbas, from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud who said: The elite of Quraysh passed by the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while Khabab, Bilal, and Suhayb were with him, and they said: "Is it these whom Allah has favored among us? Should He command us to be followers of these?"

7343 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "That they might say, 'Is it these whom Allah has favored among us?'" He said: The rich said to the poor: "Is it these whom Allah has favored among us?" meaning: Allah has guided them. And they only said that out of mockery and ridicule.

His saying: "Is not Allah most knowing of the grateful?"

7344 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-'Anqazi narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu 'Asad al-Azdi, from Abu al-Kanud, from Khabab who said: Then he mentioned al-Aqra' and 'Uyaynah and said: "And thus We have tested some of them through others, that they might say, 'Is it these whom Allah has favored among us?'" Allah the Exalted says: "Is not Allah most knowing of the grateful?"

His saying, the Exalted: "And when those who believe in Our verses come to you."

7345 - My father narrated to me, Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mujammi' al-Taymi who said: I heard Mahan say: A group came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: O Messenger of Allah, we have committed grave sins. He did not answer them with anything, and when they left, this verse was revealed: "And when those who believe in Our verses come to you, say, 'Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy'" [to the end of the verse]. So he called for them and recited it to them.

His saying: "Say, 'Peace be upon you.'"

7346 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-'Anqazi narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu 'Asad al-Azdi, from Abu al-Kanud, from Khabab, then he said: "And when those who believe in Our verses come to you, say, 'Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy'"—so we drew near to him that day until we placed our knees upon his knees. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to sit with us, and when he wanted to stand up, he would stand and leave us, so Allah the Exalted revealed:
