"Whoever claims that Muhammad saw his Lord has lied, for Allah says: 'Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision.' (1)
7736 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith al-Tamimi narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us from Abu Rawq from 'Atiyah al-'Awfi from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, regarding His saying: 'Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision,' he said: 'If the jinn, mankind, demons, and angels—from the time they were created until they perish—were to line up in a single row, they would never encompass Allah.'
7737 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah al-Qannad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us from Simak from 'Ikrimah that it was said to him: 'Vision perceives Him not,' he said: 'Do you not see the sky?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Do you see all of it?'
Second Perspective:
7738 - Yazid ibn Sinan al-Basri, a resident of Egypt, narrated to us, Yazid ibn Abi Hakim al-'Adani narrated to us, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Ikrimah say: I heard Ibn 'Abbas say: 'Muhammad saw his Lord, Blessed and Exalted.' I said to him: 'Does Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, not say in His Book: "Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision"?' He said to me: 'Woe to you! That is His light; when He reveals Himself with His light, nothing can perceive Him.' (2)
Third Perspective:
7739 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Amr ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, he said: I heard Abu al-Husayn—meaning Yahya ibn al-Husayn, the reciter of the people of Makkah—say: 'Vision perceives Him not,' he said: 'The visions are the intellects.' (3)
Fourth Perspective:
7740 - Muhammad ibn Muslim mentioned, Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Dawraqi narrated to us, Yahya ibn Ma'in narrated to us, he said: I heard Isma'il ibn 'Ulayyah say regarding the saying of the Most High: 'Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision,' he said: 'This is in the world.'"

مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا أَبْصَرَ رَبَّهُ فَقَدْ كَذَبَ، قَالَ اللَّهُ: لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ، وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الأَبْصَارَ «١» .
٧٧٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ التَّمِيمِيُّ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ الْعَوْفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الأَبْصَارَ قَالَ: لَوْ أَنَّ الْجِنَّ وَالإِنْسَ وَالشَّيَاطِينَ وَالْمَلائِكَةَ مُنْذُ خُلِقُوا إِلَى أَنْ فَنَوْا- صَفُّوا صَفًّا وَاحِدًا، مَا أَحَاطُوا بِاللَّهِ أَبَدًا.
٧٧٣٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ الْقَنَّادُ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لَهُ: لا تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ، قَالَ: أَلَسْتَ تَرَى السَّمَاءَ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى.
قَالَ: فَكُلَّهَا تَرَى؟

٧٧٣٨ - حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ نَزِيلُ مِصْرَ ثنا يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ الْعَدَنِيِّ ثنا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ أَبَانَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عِكْرِمَةَ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: رَأَى مُحَمَّدٌ رَبَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ فِي كِتَابِهِ: لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ، وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الأَبْصَارَ الآيَةَ. قَالَ لِي: لَا أُمَّ لَكَ! ذَلِكَ نُورُهُ، إِذَا تَجَلَّى بِنُورِهِ لَا يُدْرِكُهُ شَيْءٌ «٢» .
الْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٧٧٣٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحُصَيْنِ- يَعْنِي يَحْيَى بْنَ الْحُصَيْنِ قَارِئَ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ- يَقُولُ: لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ، قَالَ: الأَبْصَارُ، الْعُقُولُ «٣» .
الْوَجْهُ الرَّابِعُ:
٧٧٤٠ - ذَكَرَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ عُلَيَّةَ يَقُولُ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الأَبْصَارَ، قال: هذا في الدنيا.
